Sanborn Head completed a greenhouse gas (GHG) evaluation for a mixed-used development in general accordance with the MEPA Greenhouse Gas Emissions Policy and Protocol for this valued client.  Sanborn Head’s GHG baseline and mitigation analysis satisfied MEPA requirements and enabled the substantial site development to move forward as planned.

Emissions were assessed from direct and indirect building-related source emissions, as well as transportation-related indirect emissions based on forecasted trip generation rates.

The baseline building’s energy consumption was estimated using eQUEST (Quick Energy Simulation Tool) energy modeling software. Estimated electrical consumption (kilowatt-hours) and transportation-related emissions were converted to an annual CO2 emission rate.  We then assisted the client with identifying feasible GHG mitigation strategies for the project, including siting, site design measures, and operational measures to reduce GHG emissions by up to 12 percent from the baseline design.

The evaluation was incorporated into an Expanded Environmental Notification Form (EENF) submittal, which was among the first in Massachusetts to include such an assessment.
