To assist landfill operators with understanding the changing regulations and new concerns about per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), Sanborn Head’s Stephen Zemba presented at the WasteExpo Together Online Conference on September 16.
The virtual session called, “Beyond the Basics of PFAS,” included the varying regulations and permits, surface water standards, and new research. Steve along with co-presenter, Nikki Delude Roy of GeoInsight, focused on regulatory context, leachate stormwater issues, landfill gas, testing and treatments. Steve also discussed the toxicology/health impacts, and the complexity of the PFAS cycle between landfills and wastewater treatment plants.
