On January 5, 2024, The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) issued draft updates to the Waterways and Wetland Protection Act regulations. The proposed revisions to the regulations are aimed at improving the Commonwealth’s resilience to the impacts of climate change. Sanborn, Head & Associates (Sanborn Head) is working with our civil engineering peers to provide comments on the proposed soil evaluation and infiltration aspects of the new regulations.
MassDEP has extended the public comment period for stakeholders to provide input on the proposed regulations to April 30th, 2024. MassDEP has compiled information about their proposed changes on their website. Through virtual “office hours” sessions, participants have the opportunity to seek clarifications and voice concerns over proposed changes in the regulations. Engaging in this process is crucial for shaping the final regulations and ensuring they reflect the needs and perspectives of all stakeholders.
Sanborn Head has a deep bench of experts who specialize in groundwater and surface water recharge. Our services include in-situ testing, hydrogeologic evaluation, and groundwater engineering. We are excited at the prospect of common-sense regulations that will allow for practitioners to provide cost-effective solutions that achieve the Commonwealth’s climate resiliency goals. Viewers who wish to stay up to date on these changes should sign up to receive email updates later this year.
